Giving Thanks to Our Veterans

The month of November has a lot of important dates and holidays including Election Day and Thanksgiving Day. It’s also Military Family Appreciation Month, and Veterans Day is Friday, November 11. In honor of these important holidays, Mount Pleasant Regional Library will be having the 6th Annual Giving Thanks to Our Veterans donation drive to support the Ralph H. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC).

Throughout the month of November, we will be collecting items to send to the VAMC including:

* Socks

* Men’s and women’s underwear (sizes M-2XL)

* T-shirts (sizes M-3XL)

* Women’s sports bras (sizes M-2XL)

* Sweatpants (sizes M-3XL)

* Sweatshirts (sizes M-3XL)

* Athletic shoes (9-13 men’s; 7-11 women’s)

* Deodorant (full-sized containers, men’s and women’s)

* Body wash (full-sized bottles, men’s and women’s)

The donations collected will be used to provide assistance to Veteran patients at the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC. According to the VAMC’s Voluntary Service Program Manager, Vicki Johnson, “many of these Veterans are in our homeless program or are in other circumstances that require a little extra help. The generosity of our local community speaks volumes to the men and women who have served our country.”

The men and women of our Armed Forces are modern-day superheroes who take on the all-encompassing duty to serve our country while asking for little to nothing in return. We want to take this time to give thanks to our Veterans, Active Duty Military Personnel, and their families for all they do and the sacrifices they make.

Please help us to support those who have done so much for us by donating to the drive. For more information about donating to the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC visit: http://www.charleston.va.gov/giving/index.asp.
