A reminder that the library will be closed December 24-26. Also, our bookdrops are closed, but no items are due those days.
In case you're wondering why the bookdrops are closed, it's because staff would have to come in on holidays off to empty them.
We will reopen Friday December 27th, 10-6. We'll be open Saturday, the 28th 10-6.
What would you like from your library for 2014? What type of programs would you like? Is there anything in particular that you'd like to see covered in this blog? Post your comments or stop by the Reference Desk to let us know. We really do want to hear your ideas.
We'll see you soon. Thanks for reading.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE
Today the Friends of the Library Book Sale is going on until 4:00 in the auditorium. Come find some great bargains. They have children's books, DVD's, books on CD, and adult books.
It's a great time to find Christmas gifts for the book lover in your life. Yesterday I bought children's books for $55. When I got home I added up what the retail cost would have been. It would have cost me over $300.! Also, please join the Friends of the Library. They do a lot to support our library system.
Visit their website for more information.

Between the Stacks
by Jen McQueen
The Charleston Friends of the
Library is a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for the
Charleston County Public Library system by raising money to fund more than
7,000 library programs every year, including Summer Reading. Every year, the
Charleston Friends of the Library helps tens of thousands in your community,
including young children who learn to value reading with help from the Summer
Reading Program; teens needing a positive after-school environment; the
unemployed building job skills; workers and retirees seeking tax assistance; and
others – who reach across language and cultural barriers to fulfill their
personal passions. (Yes, a lot more than borrowing books goes on at your
library).
How can you help Charleston
Friends of the Library to meet their goals?

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Thanksgiving has come to mean Black Friday and the beginning of the Christmas shopping madness for some people. It's nice to take time though to spend time with family and friends and to contemplate why we celebrate Thanksgiving.
We have an opportunity at Mt. Pleasant Regional Library to show our veterans that we are thankful for their service. We are taking donations of toiletry items, new clothing, flip flops, foot powder and nail clippers. These will be given to homeless veterans. Ground coffee, reading glasses (any strength) and CARTA one-day bus passes are for those visiting the VA hospital. Please bring your donations to the reference desk any time before the end of the month. We have done this the past few years, and the veterans are very appreciative.
Here are a couple of titles that might help us to slow down and enjoy this very special holiday:
"The Thanksgiving Ceremony is a small gem--a book that brings to life the history, songs, and traditions, old and new, of the most widely celebrated holiday of the year. This is a buoyant book, full of hope and praise of all that makes us Americans."--Julie Nixon Eisenhower

Some people have a gift for writing- you only have to visit a library or bookstore to see how many there are. Are you one of those people? GOT BOOKS?
Is it possible to have too many books? Sometimes your bookshelves may be overflowing and you just simply need room. Also, you may be finished with books that you know you'll never read again. Children grow and they outgrow their books.
We have the perfect place to bring your books! We accept donations for the Friends of the Library. Mt. Pleasant Regional Library uses paperbacks for our little red cart, and The Friends use the hardbacks for book sales to raise money for the library.
If you have several boxes to donate, it's better to take them to the Main Library. For smaller amounts, you may bring them to the front desk and receive a receipt for your taxes.
Books that are on the school reading lists are kept at the Reference Desk for students to borrow if all copies are checked out. If you are finished with books from the reading lists, we'd appreciate your donations.
We accept books in good condition. We do not accept magazines or encyclopedias.
Also, if you're looking for a volunteer position, The Friends of the Library need you! There is a need at Mt. Pleasant Regional Library to sort and pack donations. For other volunteer positions and information, please contact The Friends of the Library at 843-805-6882.
Please contact us at 843-849-6161 for information about donations. We appreciate your donations.
