*FOL members are invited to preview book sales on Thursday before the sales open to the public on Friday.*

At Friends sales, you will find books, DVDs, and CDs, with prices starting at just $1 for paperbacks and $3 for hardback books. Items include mysteries, romances, classics, children’s books, local histories, cookbooks and more. Children’s books start at just $0.50!

HELP THE FRIENDS WHEN YOU SHOP

Help the Friends of the Library every time you shop on Amazon, and it’s free
				The Friends of the Charleston County Library received $141.50 from the AmazonSmile Foundation, all based on purchases made on Amazon between April 1 and June 30.
The site looks and has the same offers as Amazon, but the AmazonSmile webpage allows shoppers to designate a charity to receive a donation of one-half percent of the amount spent. The Friends of the Charleston County Library is a registered charitable organization with Amazon, and users can select the Friends to receive a donation anytime they purchase something from the site.   To take advantage of this option, shoppers must access Amazon through the Foundation-related web address – http://smile.amazon.com. Using your normal Amazon login, you’ll be prompted to select a charity the first time you sign in. There are more than one million charities registered with the site. After making a selection, users automatically are sent to a page with the familiar-looking Amazon layout and can start shopping. To make sure your charity continues to receive donations, you must use the specialAmazonSmile web page every time you shop on the site, so don’t forget to bookmark the page.   It’s a great way to make your money go further and to make a difference in your community. OTRANTO BOOK SALE

CCPL'S Book Sales are a great place to find children's books, DVDs and cookbooks. A lot of the books look brand new and could certainly be used as gifts.  Find a special book for the book lover in your life! The location is 2261 Otranto RD, North Charleston.  The library is right off Rivers Avenue behind KMART.     Preview FOL’s Otranto Road Regional Library Book Sale this Thursday

CCPL staff are invited to the Charleston Friends of the Library’s pre-event book thisThursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Otranto Road Regional Library. The event, usually only for members, is a preview of the public book sale Friday and Saturday. The preview sale gives shoppers the first look at a fresh selection of fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, CDs, DVDs and more. Those interested in joining the Friends can sign up online or at the sale.

Public hours for the Otranto Road Regional Book Sale are:   ·   Friday, March 7 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. ·   Saturday, March 8 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Prices start at 50 cents, and the selection features fiction, non-fiction and more.  Cash, credit cards and checks are accepted, and proceeds benefit the Charleston County Public Library. Any unsold materials are donated to area non-profits at the end of the event. SUPPORT THE FRIENDS MEDIA DRIVE

Did you get a new I Phone for Christmas?  How about a new I Pad?
Do you have boxes of CD's that you no longer listen to or video games that your children have outgrown?  See below for details of the Media Drive. They will still accept these items throughout the year, also.
Please pick up a membership form at the library and join this important organization.  It's another way to support your library.

Donate digital devices during FOL media drive through February 15
Donate CDs, DVDs, LPs, video games, iPods/iPads, eReaders, cell phones and other digital devices during the Charleston Friends of the Library’s media drive through February 15.
	Donations are accepted at any branch location, and items will be sold online or at upcoming book sale events. For more information, contact Emily Everett at 805-6882 or by emailing director@charlestonlibraryfriends.org.
	The 2014 FOL annual membership goal is $30,000, and more than $10,000 has already been raised.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE

Today the Friends of the Library Book Sale is going on until 4:00 in the auditorium.  Come find some great bargains.  They have children's books, DVD's, books on CD, and adult books.

It's a great time to find Christmas gifts for the book lover in your life. Yesterday I bought children's books for $55.  When I got home I added up what the retail cost would have been.  It would have cost me over $300.!  Also, please join the Friends of the Library.  They do a lot to support our library system.

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY DONATIONS

FOL accepts donations of gently used materials at all CCPL locations
The Charleston Friends of the Library relies on the community to donate gently used books, CDs, DVDs and video games that can be sold to raise money for the Library.
				Donations can be dropped off at any branch library. If customers have more than 100 books or six boxes, they should deliver their donations to the Friends’ sorting room at the Main Library between 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays. Customers should go to the loading dock at the rear of the building, and ring the doorbell. If no one answers, the items can be placed in the large drop box outside the back door.
If customers ask about donating items, here are some helpful guidelines to share:
Accepted: ·  Gently used books and textbooks; ·  CDs, DVDs, LPs, books on CD and video games; ·  Tablets, eReaders, cell phones and navigation systems; and ·  Complete encyclopedia sets published after 2009.					Not Accepted: ·  Moldy, wet, torn or damaged books; ·  Out-of-date encyclopedias, textbooks or    computer books published before 2009; and ·  VHS tapes.
Customers also can make cash donations to help offset the staff costs and the expenses associated with evaluating, processing and storing the donated materials. GOT BOOKS?

 Is it possible to have too many books?  Sometimes your bookshelves may be overflowing and you just simply need room.  Also, you may be finished with books that you know you'll never read again.  Children grow and they outgrow their books.
    
We have the perfect place to bring your books!  We accept donations for the Friends of the Library.  Mt. Pleasant Regional Library uses paperbacks for our little red cart, and The Friends use the hardbacks for book sales to raise money for the library.
   
 If you have several boxes to donate, it's better to take them to the Main Library.  For smaller amounts, you may bring them to the front desk and receive a receipt for your taxes.

Books that are on the school reading lists are kept at the Reference Desk for students to borrow if all copies are checked out. If you are finished with books from the reading lists, we'd appreciate your donations.

We accept books in good condition.  We do not accept magazines or encyclopedias.

Also, if you're looking for a volunteer position, The Friends of the Library need you! There is a need at Mt. Pleasant Regional Library to sort and pack donations.  For other volunteer positions and information, please contact The Friends of the Library at 843-805-6882.
