Here is the Moultrie News Article that will appear in the November 27th issue.  Thanks for reading.

Between the Stacks

by Jen McQueen

The Charleston Friends of the Library is a nonprofit organization that supports and advocates for the Charleston County Public Library system by raising money to fund more than 7,000 library programs every year, including Summer Reading. Every year, the Charleston Friends of the Library helps tens of thousands in your community, including young children who learn to value reading with help from the Summer Reading Program; teens needing a positive after-school environment; the unemployed building job skills; workers and retirees seeking tax assistance; and others – who reach across language and cultural barriers to fulfill their personal passions. (Yes, a lot more than borrowing books goes on at your library).

How can you help Charleston Friends of the Library to meet their goals?

Holiday Shopping! Please help the Friends while holiday shopping by visiting “That Holiday Book Sale” at the Mt. Pleasant Regional Library from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. on Friday, December 6 and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 7.

"Our volunteers prepare for this holiday sale throughout the year, saving books that are of gift-giving quality, many of which have a holiday theme. It has our 'best picks' of the year! Even better, prices start at just $0.50 for children's books and $1 for adult books,” says Emily Everett, Director of the Charleston Friends of the Library.

To volunteer at the booksale or become a regular Charleston Friends of the Library volunteer, please email info@charlestonlibraryfriends.org, visit charlestonlibraryfriends.org, or call (843) 805-6882.

To become a member of the Charleston Friends of the Library, visit any branch or join online at charlestonlibraryfriends.org. Membership includes admission to pre-sale events at library book sales.

To donate materials (books, DVDs, CDs, or electronics) please bring them to any of the sixteen branches in the Charleston County Library System (visit ccpl.org for more information). Please note that due to limited space, the Mt. Pleasant Regional Branch requests individual donations of four or fewer boxes or bags of materials. At the Mt. Pleasant Regional Branch, please bring your donations through the front door.

You can also help support the Friends by shopping for gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and more at shopcharlestonlibraryfriends.org.

And finally, if you shop on amazon.com this holiday season, please use http://smile.amazon.com, then login and select The Friends of the Charleston County Library as your registered charitable organization. The Friends will receive .5% of what you spend.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Thanksgiving has come to mean Black Friday and the beginning of the Christmas shopping madness for some people.  It's nice to take time though to spend time with family and friends and to contemplate why we celebrate Thanksgiving.

We have an opportunity at Mt. Pleasant Regional Library to show our veterans that we are thankful for their service.  We are taking donations of toiletry items, new clothing, flip flops, foot powder and nail clippers.  These will be given to homeless veterans.  Ground coffee, reading glasses (any strength) and CARTA one-day bus passes are for those visiting the VA hospital.  Please bring your donations to the reference desk any time before the end of the month.  We have done this the past few years, and the veterans are very appreciative.

Here are a couple of titles that might help us to slow down and enjoy this very special holiday:

"The Thanksgiving Ceremony is a small gem--a book that brings to life the history, songs, and traditions, old and new, of the most widely celebrated holiday of the year. This is a buoyant book, full of hope and praise of all that makes us Americans."--Julie Nixon Eisenhower

"Giving Thanks: Thanksgiving recipes and history, from pilgrims to pumpkin pie" by Kathleen Curtin, Sandra Oliver and Plimoth Plantation

Thanks for reading and Happy Thanksgiving.

JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY

November 22, 1963, marks the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Probably hundreds of books have been written about the president and his life and death.  This year many new books are being released, some of them reexamining the assassination.

Mt. Pleasant Regional Library is pleased to present a program by Susan Sloate who is a local author.  She and Kevin Finn wrote "Forward to Camelot" and have released a 50th anniversary edition of this time-travel thriller.  Join us for a discussion of the book and what Ms. Sloate found during her research in writing the novel.

Saturday, November 16 at 2:00 or Wednesday, November 22 at 6:30 in the Mt. Pleasant Library auditorium.  There's sure to be some lively discussion about the assassination and conspiracy theories.  Please join us.

Call us at 843-849-6161,visit our website, or stop by the reference desk to find out about new books about the assassination.
Thanks for reading.
