INTERLIBRARY LOAN

Not finding what you want in our catalog?  Is it an older book that's out of print that you can't buy or the library can't purchase?  Perhaps it's a special genealogy book about your family that you've been trying to find.

We have a solution for our patrons- Interlibrary Loan Service. What is interlibrary loan? Interlibrary loan is a service provided by Charleston County Public Library to enable patrons to use items that are not owned by the library. Libraries throughout the state and the country are contacted to see if any of them are willing to lend a particular item.

If the item requested is found, there is a $2.00 fee for each item.  Payment is made only when the item arrives.  It can take up to several weeks sometimes to get items, but usually the time is shorter. The lending library sets the check out period and decides whether the item can be renewed.

To set up an Illiad account, visit our website. Click on catalog, then on the left side of the screen click Interlibrary Loan.  Read the information, then go to Illiad to set up your account. Click First time user.
After you submit your information, you will see an order form.  Fill in as much information as possible. The title must have been released at least six months ago.

If we are able to borrow your item, you will receive an email from the Main Library saying that your item is in transit to Mt. Pleasant.  When the item arrives here, you'll receive a phone call that the item is at the Reference Desk.

We're also glad to help you set up your Illiad account.  Just stop by the Reference Desk, or call 843-849-6161.

Thanks for reading.
